A benefit of being a member of RAG is that you can choose to attend our mid-month (Introducing Astronomy) meetings, which run as an addition to the main monthly meetings that occur at Rosliston Forestry Centre. These mid-month meetings are open to all fully paid members of the group only and are aimed towards providing assistance and guidance in many aspects of astronomy. These elements can include anything from how to find your ways around the night sky to learning about multiple, sophisticated methods to give your night sky experiences a boost. You can be new to astronomy or someone with experience - everyone is welcome.
We meet in the Forest Classroom next to the Hub Café in Rosliston Forestry Centre, and the meetings start at 19:30 and finish at around 21:30. There is a charge of £1 entrance fee per adult (under 16s accompanied by an adult are free) for RAG members. Non-members can attend one session but will be required to apply for membership if they wish to attend again in the future. The entrance fee for non-members is £2 per adult (£1 for under 16s).
The Forestry Centre also has a small charge for parking, which can be paid for at a parking machine. Please note that we reserve the right to decline admission to sessions if the classroom is full.
The sessions are structured but allow for some flexibility. There will be opportunities for public observing during or after the meetings, depending on the weather and the state of the sky.
Accessing the Site to Attend Meetings of RAG
There are two barriers which allow access to/exit from the Forestry Centre and both are required to be kept down in the evening. The ENTRANCE barrier will be raised between the hours of 19:30 to 20:00 to allow access to the site for cars. The barrier will only be raised outside of these times in exceptional circumstances.
When exiting from the site after meetings, cars can drive up to the exit barrier where it will raise automatically.
