Beginners
Welcome to astronomy — one of the most rewarding hobbies you can take up, and one that is far more accessible than most people realise. Whether you have just noticed the stars for the first time, received a telescope as a gift, or simply find yourself curious about what is up there, you are in the right place.
You don't need expensive equipment to get started
One of the biggest myths about astronomy is that you need a large, expensive telescope before you can do anything worthwhile. The truth is that some of the most memorable observing experiences require nothing more than your own eyes and a clear night. The Moon, the planets, the Milky Way, meteor showers and even other galaxies are all visible without any equipment at all — once you know where to look.
You don't need to be a scientist
Astronomy welcomes everyone, regardless of background or experience. Our members range from complete beginners who have never looked through a telescope, to experienced imagers who have spent years perfecting their craft. What everyone has in common is a shared curiosity about the universe — and a willingness to help others discover it.
